Three New York Life Cycles

Monarch butterflies, wood frogs, and bean plants all live in New York State. Students used books and observations to compare their life cycles.

Students also raised a monarch caterpillar (larva) in the classroom and measured its length every three days. On Day 14, the caterpillar hung upside down and formed a chrysalis (pupa). About 10 days later, an adult butterfly came out.

All three adults reproduce: butterflies and frogs lay eggs, and bean plants make seeds.
